Mesh (2007)

Mesh is a series of sculptures inspired by experimental ecology’s use of cages to separate predators from prey. The steel mesh in Mesh visually explores concepts relating to refinement and waste. These sculptures allude to manufacturing's manipulation of natural material whereby undesirable elements are excluded. The mesh becomes a filter, a template that applies a uniform dimension to an irregularly shaped branch in an allusion to manufacturing’s conversion of natural materials into products. On other occasions the steel mesh is employed to visually represent an artificial barrier, a feature that literally surrounds and encloses nature.

Galvanised mesh, eucalypt timber, eucalypt limb wood. Dimensions variable.
