Overlay (2006)

The built environment can appear static; resistant to change. However any changes can have a dramatic localised effect, and the redevelopment at Peppermint Bay is one such instance. On this site Overlay visually explores the spacial relationship between the previous and present buildings. It achieves this by tracing the outline of the demolished hotel building onto the current structure to create a memorial, manifesting a connection between the past and present in the process. Crossing the roof and walls, Overlay's arresting yellow line of tape forms an enigmatic, abstract pattern, an invitation to consider how layers of history progressively accumulate to form contemporary constructed landscapes.

Duct tape. Site-specific installation.
