Dissolve (natural and domestic lakes) extends on ideas introduced in a number of earlier works. In developing previous aesthetic strategies the intention is to more strongly emphasise visual connections that link the domestic, home environment – a place I have come to interpret as a landscape in its own right – and features within the wider natural landscape. To this end, knowing that the actual lakes in the video exist within the catchment area supplying water to my home is of central significance and provides a basis for interpreting the work conceptually.
Intentionally selecting images that result from mundane activities within my home (washing hands and dishes) highlights the need to ecologically reassess all aspects of our lives. It is also a reminder that the poetic can reside within everyday events, presenting an invitation to look, think and reconsider.
