Searching in the backs of cupboards, under draws and behind food jars, my kitchen is transformed from a room to a landscape inhabited by uninvited creatures. Such focused searching creates an awareness that, in addition to my own presence, my home is also defined by the lives of non-human inhabitants. In golden frames, each spider’s image hangs trophy-like, a physical manifestation of a new-found appreciation for the biological richness contained within this small, controlled, artificial environment.
Kitchen Safari (all the spiders I could find living in my kitchen on 9th July 2014) (2014)
